Despite of his unprivileged condition, WinSon did his very best at the primary school; he was then blessed to receive a scholarship that allows him to finance his school fees in Confucian Private Secondary School. He has no money to pay for his bus fare and canteen. At tender age of 12 years old, he had to wake up as early as 3 o’clock in the morning to work at the local dim-sum restaurant which can earn RM 8 every week. However, it was still not sufficient for him to pay daily meal. He helped the rich student to do some homework to get a piece of bread to survive his school life. Being creative and talented, he has participated in art exhibition organized by his school for raising charity fund. Parent framed their children works and he was the only participant who could not afford to frame his work. He started to promise himself to craft his own frame one day. Working and studying was a very tough commitment to a teenage boy. He terribly loss his focus and drive to sustain his study and resulted he was not awarded to receive full scholarship. He worked more days in dim-sum restaurant to continue his study. He quitted his school at age of 15 years old and was accepted as a frame maker apprentice. He developed his knowledge and skills toward frame making and crafting and becoming an innovative frame artisan. He started his own frame-making production with a partnership. However, his determination toward arts and frames has made him to take the next leap to entirely manage the production on his own commencing the year 2007. He started to be interviewed by newspaper (中國報, 5 July 1998, 鑲個相框,鑲住回憶 & 星洲日报, 10 Nov 1998, 把最爱镶起来, 看它千遍也不厌) and television (City Focus - RTM 2, 1998 & Majalah 3 - TV3, 1998) since 1998. He was recognized as the first 3D frame maker in Malaysia when McDonald launched the collection of Teddy Bear in 1999. He created his unique frame to protect them adequately. He was holding a sample of the Teddy Bear frame for showing and giving his leaflet to those were queuing to buy the Teddy Bear collection in McDonald outlets. Over the years, he has been featured in newspaper articles and television more than 30 times. City Focus (RTM 2, 1998), Majalah 3 (TV3, 1998), On The Beat (RTM2, 1999), Time Out On 7 (NTV 7, 2005), Shop & Dapat (8TV, 2006), Life! Session (NTV 7, 2007). He established his brand PINKGUY® in 2007 which phonetically derived from the Malay word "Bingkai" that literally means frame in English. A catchy tone and a friendly image brand is the result of his creation. In conjunction with celebration of 25th anniversary of doing framing, he created his innovative and stylish frame which is most popularly recognized by the elegant diamond signatures in 2008. His inimitable energy and personal style has led some to refer to him as "Malaysia’s Most Revolutionary Frame-maker". | ||
